El Monte City School District Head Start/State Preschool Child Development Programs uses the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. The curriculum is appropriate for all children, including dual-language learners and children with disabilities. The philosophy behind the Creative Curriculum for Preschool is that children learn best by doing when they are provided with opportunities to learn and to make choices in a safe and nurturing classroom environment. Our well educated Head Start teachers and home visitors create high-quality learning environments and promote successful curriculum implementation that supports positive educational and social outcomes for children ages 2.9 to 5.
We offer vision, hearing and dental screenings for each child in our program to make sure all students are ready for a good "Head Start". If your child does not have health, dental or eye care insurance coverage, we can help connect you with free physical exams, health care follow ups, dental exams and even spiffy new eye glasses. (if eligible) In some cases your family may qualify for those same health care services!

Family Service staff work closely throughout the year with each family to establish family goals and assist families in meeting these goals. They consult with program staff and parents individually to address children’s behavior and/or mental health related issues. Mental health services are initiated through an in-house referral process by parents and staff based on classroom concerns or family need.
