Cherrylee Jog-a-thon tallies up some big bucks!
El Monte City School District’s Cherrylee School 18th Annual Jog-a-thon proved to be another great success. The entire student body turned out on a sunny morning to jog around two separate tracks – one lower grade, one upper grade. Teachers, parents, and other family members lined both tracks cheering on the students as upbeat music blasted through the speakers. Student were encouraged to keep running as every lap meant more money for the school.
Firemen from L.A. County Engine 169 lead warm up activities and jogged along with the students. Parents and teachers were also invited to take a couple of laps. It was a happy celebratory morning with smiles all around as the students jogged for 45 minutes. Some students ran nonstop!
Cherrylee Librarian and Jog-a-thon organizer, Merrylin Edwards said, “This is an event the kids look forward to all year. It’s our only fundraiser and it’s the only one we need.” She went on to say, “Without the commitment from our teachers and parents this event wouldn’t be nearly as successful. The Cherrylee community is awesome.”
About a week after the jog-a-thon, all the pledge money was turned in and Cherrylee School surpassed last year’s Jog-a-thon total with a whopping $27,128.17! Consequently, students will be rewarded by pouring slime all over their teachers!
